Our first speaker of 2018 David Standing give the illustrated presentation "Growing Old Fashioned Flowers" Before retirement David managed the Gilbert White garden at Selborne from 1979 where he researched the layout and plants of the historic garden. As no plan existed, White’s journals, correspondence, household account books and diary called ‘The Garden Kalendar’ were studied in order to work out the garden White created. David's talk highlighted the flower gardens familiar to Gilbert White from 1751 to 1771. Take this link to the full report. in pdf format. |
