Virtual Spring Show - Saturday 27th March 2021


Following the success of our two virtual shows last year, we are now holding a bigger and better Virtual Spring Show. Winning entries will be publicised in the local press, on our website and our facebook page. You will be notified by email with a list of winners by mid-April. We are offering a prize of a £5 gift voucher to be spent in our Trading Centre for the 1st placed winner in each class. Junior Classes will receive an gift voucher. All junior entries receive a certificate.


All we need are two images sent to us by email – one of your entry and also one of you with your entry (please state that you are happy for us to use this photo). Please state the class number in your email. This should be sent to the following email address from Wednesday 24th – Saturday 27th March 2021;

Classes

(open to members and non-members)
  1. Daffodils (any variety) -five stems in a jar
  2. Spring bulbs (any variety) in a container
  3. Spring flowers arranged in a jam jar
  4. A Vision of Spring – a photo of an area of your garden representing spring (this can be border or a container)
  5. A Spring rockery (this can be in a container or in your garden)
  6. Garden produce – a selection of three items (one of each) on a plate
  7. Crafts and Handiwork
  8. Knitting, crochet, needlework
  9. Art, pictures
  10. Any other craft item
  11. Photography - a photo in jpg format – ‘Spring is in the air’
  12. Cookery: Six Cup Cakes decorated for Easter – judged solely for design
  13. Cookery: Banana Bread – Men Only (Please photograph whole cake and one slice)
  14. Banana Loaf Recipe
  15. Floral Art: “A Spring Surprise” – with or without oasis
  16. FOR OUR JUNIOR MEMBERS 14 yrs & under

  17. Six Decorated eggs for Easter in a box (this can be decorated as well)
  18. A posy of spring flowers in a jam jar (this can be decorated as well)
  19. Something for fun – Easter is the following weekend!

  20. A decorated Easter Bonnet – All ages can enter You can use a hat you have already!

We are not charging for entries but any donations can be made to the account below and all proceeds will go to charity.

We are looking for someone to take on the role of Chief Steward in 2021 for our physical shows. If you are interested in this role please contact Tim Speller on the below details.

A vacancy has arisen for a Chief Steward
to cover the Horticultural Society’s three shows
staged in March, June and September
and to manage the show preparation
and to assist the Show Manager.

They will be well supported
by the outgoing Chief Steward
and the Show Sub-Show Committee.

New Venue For HIHS Shows

Hayling College
The venue for the HIHS Shows is now Hayling College
Church Road, Hayling Island, PO11 0NU.

The Buzz of the Show


It is a real social occasion with a buzz from
setting up the hall on Friday evening,
then Saturday morning staging of exhibits and judging,
the afternoon public opening and trophy presentations,
until the final clearing away late Saturday afternoon.

An afternoon tea room offers home made cakes.

There are plant sales, traiding centre stall, tombola
guest tables and at the summer show a raffle.

to a lecture meeting or to the Trading Centre.
