Autumn Show - 2nd - 5th September 2020

Well done to all of those who took part in our Virtual Autumn Show, a round up of the event, full results and some photos of the winning entries will be available on the website soon.

We had an amazing response and there were some great entries.

 

Winning entries will be publicised in the local press, on our website and our facebook page. You will be notified by email with a list of winners by mid-September .

Classes

(open to members and non-members)
  1. Dahlias (any variety) - three stems in a jar
  2. House or pot plant (in bloom or fruiting)
  3. Seasonal flowers arranged in a jam jar
  4. A cut flower and a vegetable on a plate
  5. Apples (dessert) 3 on a plate
  6. A. Peppers Sweet – 3 on a plate, B. Peppers-hot (chili) 4 on a plate
  7. Note: Both types of pepper can be entered.
  8. Tomatoes (any variety) 5 on a plate
  9. Courgettes – 3 on a plate
  10. Beetroot – 2 on a plate
  11. Longest cucumber (please photograph alongside tape measure)
  12. Any other craft item/handiwork
  13. Photography - a photo in jpg format - Any Subject
  14. A decorated cake – judged solely for design
  15. A Harvest themed loaf of bread (whole loaf and with a slice cut)
  16. Honey Bee Class – Honey Cake with appropriate decoration. RECIPE HONEY CAKE
  17. For our Junior Members: 14 years and under

  18. Decorated biscuits (may be purchased) - 5 on a plate.
  19. Finally for a bit of fun

  20. Any oversized or misshapen fruit or vegetable (this can include pumpkins and squash)
  21. We are not charging for entries but any donations can be made to the account below and all proceeds will go to charity.

    Junior Exhibitors Poem

    Chief Steward Vacancy


    A vacancy has arisen for a Chief Steward
    to cover the Horticultural Society’s three shows
    staged in March, June and September
    and to manage the show preparation
    and to assist the Show Manager.

    They will be well supported
    by the outgoing Chief Steward
    and the Show Sub-Show Committee.

    New Venue For HIHS Shows

    Hayling College
    The venue for the HIHS Shows is now Hayling College
    Church Road, Hayling Island, PO11 0NU.

    The Buzz of the Show


    It is a real social occasion with a buzz from
    setting up the hall on Friday evening,
    then Saturday morning staging of exhibits and judging,
    the afternoon public opening and trophy presentations,
    until the final clearing away late Saturday afternoon.

    An afternoon tea room offers home made cakes.

    There are plant sales, traiding centre stall, tombola
    guest tables and at the summer show a raffle.

    Take your elements to Norman at 27 Park Road,
    to a lecture meeting or to the Trading Centre.
    Every little helps to make the tombola exciting
